One year we had a party and someone suggested having a chocolate fountain. You know, the kind of thing where you stick in a strawberry and coat it with the flowing chocolate. Not a great idea. Really messy. And, to top it off, you have to use special chocolate.

Well, that idea sizzled, but the chocolate we bought to use in the fountain turned out to be outstanding. We get it from Williams-Sonoma and it's called "chocolate fondue chips." The price in 2009 is $15.00 for a pound. The chocolate comes in little round discs about the size of a nickle. The chocolate itself has a dark chocolate taste, although not as intense as regular dark chocolate. Each chip has a satisfying crunch when you bite down, and a great chocolate finish in the mouth. A pound of these chips contains hundreds of chips. If you can control yourself, they can last a long time. And they come in a classy tin, suitable for perching on the top of your desk. Give them a try.
