Section 411.185 of the Texas Government Code addresses this question. You must complete the continuing education course in handgun proficiency not more than 6 months before the date of renewal.
You must also obtain a handgun proficiency certificate and submit an application for renewal to the DPS, along with a copy of the handgun proficiency certificate, payment of the renewal fee, and two recent color passport pictures.
