I highly recommend that anyone who is interested in wine go out and buy a Screwpull corkscrew. The Screwpull makes cork removal virtually failureproof. The guide frame is placed over the neck of the body the corkscrew itself is threaded through a hole in the guide. All one does is turn the handle on the corkscrew and the cork is removed automatically. It is difficult to describe, but it is easy in practice. Screwpulls make great gifts and sure beat the waiters corkscrew and angle wings corkscrews. Screwpulls are avialable at most wine stores. You'll wonder how you ever did without one.
